Nokia gives us a lecture in “how to convince skeptical users of mobile ticketing” by offering only a limited number of paper tickets – I simply can’t believe that this venue is already sold out – and forcing people who want to buy tickets in advance to order them on their cell phone.
So I guess Nokia leaves me no option but to try this mobile ticketing thing. I hope you get at least a drink at the party without using your cell phone.
Very uncool Nokia!
Yep, I’m an old fashioned paper ticket buyer, not a trendy mobile ticketing user as Nokia would like to see most of their guests at Nokia Trends.
It’s quite obvious that Nokia is trying to promote mobile ticketing. Popular mobile applications are good for mobile business. Strange enough that Nokia doesn’t even believe itself in its technology. Or why else would they mention a back-up system and ensure potential mobile ticketing users that everything is going to be fine, even if the mobile ticket (an encrypted image sent to your phone) doesn’t work.
I experienced too many unreceivable picture messages from different mobile phone brands and operators than mine is. So why should I bother and risk mobile ticketing when I can be a 100% sure that paper tickets will do their job just fine.
As you might have noticed by the new huge ad badge in my sidebar, I’m now a proud partner of Performancing. Even though it’s pretty straight-forward, you still have to add a few lines of Performancing code by hand to your WordPress theme in order to integrate Performancing into your blog.
I wanted to place Performancing somewhere on my sidebar. Since my sidebar is managed by the fantastic Widgets plugin, I was looking for a Perfomancing widget. No luck, couldn’t find one. So I quickly wrote one by myself. Well, I took an existing GPL Widget and modified it to fit my needs.
If you want to use it too, feel free to download it here.
Installation is like with any other widget: unpack and upload it to your plugins/widgets folder, activate it in your plugins menue and then drag it somewhere onto your sidebar.
There are only three Widget options to set:
- Widget title (default: Performancing Partners)
- Blog ID (obligatory! your blogid given by Performancing)
- Widget alignment (default: center)
If you have any suggestions or troubles please post them here.
Sometimes it’s better to have a second look at the wording before translating a campaign name directly into a domain. Stripping out some blanks can easily create new and, above all, unwanted words.

What did you read?
Browsing thru my Flickr contacts today I came across this blog post:
Zooomr is up again…
… What they did do was expand on the stuff I’m completely uninterested in, like GeoTagging. …
Shocking! Somebody who isn’t excited about geotechnology!
Seriously, this post made me think about the ongoing hype around recent geotechnology. I’m referring to the “mashup industry” as synonym for geotechnology intruding entertainment. Let’s stick with geotagging: the only people I can see who are geotagging their photos right now are geeks, early adopting geo geeks. Of course everyone is stunned by tools like Google Earth, but no one of my “normal” friends is even asking for loading photos into Google Earth and view them on the globe. They just want to watch the pictures like my parents already did with their old photo albums,.
Geotechnology as part of the entertainment industry is unlikely going to be the “next big thing”.
I think there are good chances that technologies like geotagging will sneak silently into our day-to-day life. It definitely will be a handy feature, even for non geo geeks like my aunt, if you have a button next to the picture in your photo organizer which tells you the place or shows a map where the picture was taken. But first the demand for this button must be created. Why would I need a digital map in addition to the photo when I have my mental map know exactly where the picture was taken?
I don’t own a mobile phone because I needed one. I wanted a mobile phone because somebody told me that I want it. And now I can’t imagine how my life worked without mobile phone.

How can that be?
Every IT news site is reporting about the super-duper Google communication service which is supposed to be announced tomorrow. What will it be? Another instant messaging service based on jabber (because talk.google.com was running a jabber server like a few sites said) or a VOIP service to compete with Skype?
However, observing those speculations I got amused about that probably the best marketing campaign is no marketing campaign. Feed the rumor sites with some hints, they’ll spread the information for you directly to your target group. Instead of commenting the rumors threaten those sites with your lawyers to stimulate discussions around the rumors (“Buhh! The big evil unfair company!”). People will get interested in what’s going on and of course in your brand/products. News sites will start publishing articles about the rumors so that you’ll end up having your commercials and ads placed across the web without paying anything.
Apple definitely are professionals in using that method, Google apparently has learned from them.
The result when creatives go insane: a canditate for the sickest ad ever.
