We are hip!

TupaloToday I’ve found a solution how to stay up to date where all the young hip people are going out in Vienna: it’s easy, just follow the “bobo” tag on Tupalo!

Tupalo is a Vienna based mapping-”Stuff in your Neighborhood”-start-up, a social networking site where people can easily pin-point their favorite spots on a map, rate and review them and share experiences. I started liking it mainly because it reminded me of a couple of nice places I went once, but for some reasons forgot about them and never came back again. So Tupalo is responsible for my quite long wanna-go-again list.

Among other features users can subscribe to all kinds of feeds on Tupalo. What I did to catch up with the local hip crowd is to subscribe to the bobo-RSS-feed. Since Tupalo is a mapping application, the RSS feed is of course GeoRSS flavored and can be placed immediately on a map. Each time a new hot bobo venue pops up in Vienna, I’ll get informed what and where it is right away! Great!

Google VOD

Video on demand without “watch it within a day or we blow up your computer DRM”:
Mashable provides a list of 50 full length movies available on Google Video, not quite legal though.

Social Plazes, again

PlazesGood news from Plazes HQ: social features are going to come back to Plazes again. Along with its latest relaunch Plazes started feeling like one of those infamous Twitter clones rather than a location aware social network. The new dashboard and Plazer were primarily answering the question “What are people doing?” than “Where are people?”.

I still believe the Plazes concept – “where are my contacts” and “who is in my neighborhood” – is much more interesting and sustainable than the Twitter hype – “what is the world doing (in one line)”. Twitter is fascinating for, let’s say, about 10 minutes, but after this short initial period it’s getting boring.

Dangerous toothpaste

Lost & FoundThe last trip to Zürich was so nice that my luggage decided to extend and stay another day.

Great. Now what really pisses me off is that I could’ve taken the small trolley easily as hand luggage if the toothpaste in it wouldn’t be considered as security risk. Next time I’ll leave the dangerous dental hygiene stuff at home, carry some peppermint pastilles with me instead and therefore face less stress at the airport.

BarCamp Vienna TV coverage

Puls TV, the local Viennese TV network, did a short report about the latest BarCamp Vienna (in German language), explaining the motivation and giving an impression of the atmoshere there:

Parliamentarianism

ParlamentI just discovered TheyWorkForYou.com, a website keeping track of UK parliamentary debates and activities. As far as I understood it basically reformats and restructures the Hansard, the UK parliamentary transcripts, and makes it easier to follow, find and comment on debates as well as MPs, etc.

It’s a brilliant method to find out what MPs you voted for are doing (or not), what their opinions on various topics are, if they are joining debates (or not) and representing you the way you’d expect them to do (or not).

Ever tried to find, read and understand a “Stenographisches Protokoll” of the Austrian parliament? Or even get a global picture of different MP opinions on a certain topic?

Now I know perfectly the current state of discussion on Galileo, the (possible) European Global Navigation Satellite System, in the UK, which is quite interesting btw, but don’t have a clue about what Austrian representatives are opining on that issue. Besides the few statements which made it into the news of course.
