I've also seen a large number of sites think they're done with Geo by adding KML. Hopefully Google, OGC, and GeoRSS all pick up on this interoperability idea and suggestions. Mapufacture now supports it - though GoogleEarth doesn't yet use KML 2.2. This is an excellent point and exactly what I’m trying to avoid.
