In December Franz Ferdinand will play here in Vienna. Now I’m thinking about going to see them but the entry is €37.70 which seems quite a bit for a concert. Besides it won’t be a cosy small event but rather be crowded with a few thousand people because as venue the choose the Wiener Stadthalle which has capacity up to 16,000 people.
So, is a big style Franz Ferdinand concert worth €37.70?
Lately I came across that headline:
Grandpa is sued over grandson’s downloads
A 67-year-old man who says he doesn’t even like watching movies has been sued by the film industry for copyright infringement after a grandson of his downloaded four movies on their home computer.
In another forum I found an interesting calculation concerning the specified amount of loss. But firstly some estimations:
Grandson’s upload rate: 4 MByte/min
Size per Movie: 1 GB
Prize per Movie: 20 US-Dollar
For $600,000 you can buy 30,000 movies á $20. With the estimated upload rate grandson would need more than 14 years uploading 24/7 at full rate to distribute those 30,000 movies. So a loss of $600,000, just because grandson was pulling 4 movies out of iMesh, seems a bit overdrawn.
But what does this little calculation basically show us?
The “M” in MPAA apparently doesn’t stand for Mathematics, but the “P” in MPAA probably is the abbreviation for Psychological warfare.
… and in the meantime SonyBMG is installing rootkits on customer PCs. That’s entertainment! That’s the way how the hard working entertainment industry will survive. Definitely!
